No mother is ever, completely, a child's idea of what a mother should be, and I suppose it works the other way around as well.

About This Quote

To have a mother who is a child's idea of what a mother should be is a joy to behold. This phrase comes from the play "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare. In the play, Shakespeare illustrates how the fairy king Oberon and his brother, king Titania, have difficulty finding a bride for their son, Puck. In other words, no mother is ever completely a child's idea of what a mother should be. It's a funny line to use in a serious context because it reminds us that real mothers are not perfect and we can never expect them to be perfect; real mothers love their children unconditionally and will do anything for them; real mothers will tell you when you make mistakes and help guide you toward better decisions; and real mothers will always try their hardest to make you happy.
